Health assessments
Doctors and nurses may be able to assist you to determine you eligibility for any of the following:
– People 40 to 49 years of age with a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes as determined by the Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool
– People 45 to 49 years of age who are at risk of developing a chronic disease
– People 75 years of age and older.
– People with an intellectual disability
– Patients of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent

Minor surgery and cryotherapy
Gasworks Medical Practice is able to conduct minor surgery in the practice’s large and up to date treatment room.
Doctors are able to conduct a variety of procedures so please speak to your doctor to see if they are able to assist you.
LGBTI health
Gasworks Medical Practice welcomes all gender and sexual minorities to our practice. We proudly serve and recognise lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex people and other sexuality and gender diverse (LGBTI) people and communities.
Contraception
Contraception is an important decision in a woman’s life. Choosing the right contraceptive for you is vital. We have a team of doctors who pride themself on providing you the information so you can make an informed decision.
Gasworks Medical Practice has qualified doctors that are able to do Implanon Insertion and Removal.
In addition, Dr Louise Leith, Dr Elizabeth French, Dr Vasugi Vijayaratna, Dr Kasey Reiken, Dr Karen Wright and Dr Rebecca Cece are qualified and experienced in hormonal IUD Insertion.

Family planning
Planning a family is an exciting time in your life, and our experienced doctors can help you prior to conception until the birth and beyond. We believe it is important to optimise health prior to having a baby. Pre-pregnancy consultations are important to ensure you are in the best health possible prior to conceiving.
Talk with one of our friendly doctors today to find out more and discuss screening blood tests, check your immunisations and cervical screening are up to date. It is also important that you take vitamins during pregnancy.
Antenatal care
Pregnancy can be an overwhelming thing. The doctors at GMP strive for high antenatal care. We will point you in the right different in terms of antenatal care in the public or private sector. Some of our doctors offer share care with Mater Hospital and Royal Childrens Woman Hospital

Iron infusion
The doctors at Gasworks Medical Practice are pleased to offer iron infusions to current patients of GMP and to patient from other practices. Iron infusions are performed in our up to date treatment room.
Please discuss with your doctor to see if qualify for an iron infusion. Information on how to book and the costs can be found on the billing section of our website.
Wound care
The dedicated nurses at Gasworks Medical Practice are able to provide wound care management. In conjunction with your doctor we will determine the best course of action to give you the best outcome possible.
Women’s Health
It is important women feel comfortable to visit their general practitioner and discuss all aspects of women’s health. We will discuss preventative health as well as screening tests include cervical screening, breast imaging and bowel cancer screening. We will help you throughout all life stages including menopause.
Men’s Health
It can be hard to make an appointment to come to see a doctor so at GMP we welcome you. Preventative health is so important and as a male prostate screening, bowel cancer screening and management of cardiovascular risk factors is vital.
Mental health
Seeking support can be daunting, especially if you are sleep deprived or overwhelmed with distress. If you’re experiencing mental health symptoms, including anxiety, depression, or acute life stressors, you may benefit from reaching out. Our open and friendly atmosphere here at Gasworks Medical Practice means you have a safe place to open up to one of our professional, caring doctors to get the assistance you need.
The doctors at GMP work with patients with such conditions as depression, mood disturbance, stress, anxiety, and substance abuse to name a few. There any many options for treatment and management of these conditions and our doctors strive for holistic care of all mental health conditions.

Skin Clinic
Skin Cancer is the most common cancer in Australia and Australia has the highest rate of all skin cancers in the world. Australians are four times more likely to develop skin cancer than any other form of cancer. Skin cancers can be treated successfully if they are detected early.
The experienced medical practitioners at GMP, Dr Paul Paterson, Dr Richard Smith, Dr Lisa Ch’ng, Dr Sarah McNamee and Dr Lauren Ries provides a full skin examination to assess any spots or lesions on the skin. Using imaging technology, suspicious lesions can be photographed and recorded for accurate monitoring and follow-up.
No referral necessary – There is no bulk billing for skin clinic consultations – 15min appointment with Dr Paul Paterson. 30 min appointment with Dr Richard Smith, Dr Lisa Ch’ng, Dr Sarah McNamee and Dr Lauren Ries.
If a small procedure or treatment is required, this can often be done during the same consultation. However more complex procedures may require a separate appointment.

Chronic Disease Management
Comprehensive and individualised care plan can ensure that all aspects of chronic disease are managed including goals to achieve optimal health. Chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, arthritis, chronic pain are amongst the most common conditions that can be supported with the help of a care plan. Some care plan patients are eligible for referral to allied health providers with a Medicare rebate.
Travel Medicine
Before you head off on your next holiday, speak to one of our experienced doctors to find out if there are any health risks you should be aware of. They can inform you if any vaccinations are necessary and when the best time to get them is, so you stay safe and well during your travels.
We keep some of these vaccinations in our fridge at the practice to allow easy access to the vaccination to save you time.
Some of our doctors are specialise in administrating the Yellow Fever vaccine. Please call the practice to speak to our friendly team about this.

Appointments
Consultations are by appointment and these are made at 15 minute intervals.
If you have a number of problems or a complex issue to discuss please let the receptionists know upon booking your appointment so they can allocate a longer time for you to speak with the doctor.

Accidents & Emergencies
Gasworks Medical Practice takes great care in looking after our patients however in cases of life-threatening emergency or serious injury, such as chest pain, severe bleeding, shortness of breath, please call triple zero (000) directly.
If you believe your condition is urgent but not life-threatening, our clinical nursing staff are onsite 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday to assist with triaging the urgency.

13 HEALTH (13 432584) are a 24/7 health advice phone line to speak with a registered nurse.
Cancellations
Due to the increasing need for appointments, if you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, it is important that you notify us as soon as possible by phoning reception on 07 3852 4299.
This will allow us to offer the appointment to other patients seeking medical assistance.
Failure to attend an appointment without notice (2 hours prior) will result in a non-attendance fee.
We understand that it can be hard for the early morning appointments to cancel outside this 2 hours window as we only open at 7am, to combat this we send out appointment reminders that require a yes or no response. These can be replied to at any time of the day, including outside our business hours, if you are unable to reply to the message, we are also happy to receive an email notifying us that you wish to cancel.
Interpreting services
Providing quality medical care requires accurate and concise communication between patient and doctor, we encourage non-English speaking patients to utilise the government funded translating and interpreting service. This assists in protecting the privacy of the patient while discussing issues of a personal nature.
A government funded interpreting service (AUSLAN) is also accessible for patients who are deaf and use Australian Sign Language. Please let our reception staff know at the time of booking, if one of these services are required.
Medical Certificates
An appointment with the doctor is required to obtain a medical certificate.
A medical certificate is a legal document, as such cannot be backdated.
Medical certificates will be supplied for medical conditions where the doctor deems time off is required.
Medical students
At Gasworks Medical Practice we believe in supporting the development of Medical students and contribute towards their training. It is very important to promote the future of health care in Australia and therefore we encourage medical students to join our surgery during their “rotation terms” of their study and observe our doctors at work.
We ask for your co-operation in relation to this but understand if you prefer not to have a student in the consultation room during your appointment.
Privacy policy
Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of staff. Only information necessary to manage your healthcare and associated tasks will be collected. Computers are protected with full security and backups.

Referral
As referrals cannot be backdated, please ensure you have an up to date referral prior to your specialist appointment. A new referral to your specialist is generally required every 12 months and can be obtained through an appointment with one of our general practitioners. Failure to have a valid referral will result in you losing the Medicare rebate entitlement for the specialist appointment.

Prescriptions
A consultation with one of our doctors is required to obtain a prescription. This ensures that a suitable medication is prescribed whilst also allowing the doctor to assess the need and effectiveness of such medication.
Gasworks Medical Practice offer a private service to request for repeat prescriptions via HotDoc Repeat Prescription

Results
During your initial consultation your doctor will discuss a plan for providing your results for any medical imaging or pathology.
If you receive an email, SMS or phone call to book in for ‘non-urgent results’, your doctor would like to you to book an appointment, ideally within a two week timeframe to discuss your results and an appropriate plan for continued care.
All consultations including results incur an appointment fee.
If you are hoping to obtain copies of your results, please ask during your consultation.
Alternatively, you can access these through your MyHealth record after 7-14 days.
The MyHealth app is a great user-friendly way to view your medical records.
Billing & payments
Gasworks Medical Practice is a private billing practice.
All fees are to be paid at time of consultation by EFTPOS or credit card (MasterCard or Visa). Credit card surcharges apply. We accept card only.
Failure to attend an appointment or without notice 2 hours prior you will be charged a $50 non-attendance fee.

Immunisations
Gasworks Medical Practice provides immunisations for babies and children following the national immunisation program, starting 6 weeks, 4 months, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months and 4 years. In addition to these, your doctor can advise on additional vaccinations not currently on the schedule. We have an experienced medical and nursing team that is able to assist you and your family with these immunisations.
The immunisations you may require as an adult may vary greatly, depending on your age, stage of life, travel plans, and immunisation history. Gasworks Medical Practice will keep records of these to ensure you are always up to date.
