Welcoming baby to GMP

Your guide to appointments for your baby at Gasworks Medical Practice.

Gasworks Medical Practice offer bulk billed appointments for children until they turn 2 between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday. For appointments to be bulk billed baby must be on the Medicare Card. If baby is not set up with Medicare you will need to pay for the appointment at the ‘bulk bill’ fee and lodge a claim to Medicare for reimbursement. Please present to reception following all appointments, including bulk billed appointments as we require your consent to lodge the claim.

How to set up baby on your Medicare Card:
Important – Ensure you have proof of birth documents provided by the hospital
1. Download the Medicare Express App
2. Click Menu (tab along the bottom)
3. Click ‘Enrol a newborn’
4. Complete the all questions as appropriate

We would recommend setting up baby for Medicare as soon as possible.

For Baby
Gasworks Medical Practice recommends to book your baby in for a 7 day old appointment with your regular GP to do height & weight, help answer questions about your new baby. This first outing with baby may take longer than expected so we recommend aiming to arrive 10 minutes early.

For your baby’s first appointment they will be considered a new patient to the practice.
Please book a long appointment (30 minutes). You will need to complete a new patient registration form: https://www.hotdoc.com.au/forms/gasworks-medical-practice-fka-teneriffe-family-doctors-new-patient-registration-form

For Mother
Following your delivery we would recommend booking a 15 minute appointment for yourself on the same day. The appointment is to check your healing at the 7 day mark, help answer any questions .

If you not do not have a private obstetrician, you should book a standard appointment (15 minutes) for a check up with your regular GP at six weeks post partum. This can be booked in the same day as your baby’s 6 week immunisation. This appointment is to check your healing, discuss contraception, discuss feeding and a CST (Cervical Screening Test).

Vaccinations
The Australian Immunisation schedule recommendations until they turn 2:
6 week appointment (30 minutes)
4 month appointment (30 minutes) (by date, not weeks)
6 month appointment (30 minutes)
12 month appointment (30 minutes)
18 month appointment (30 minutes)
*Bexsero(Meningococcal) B with panadol given 30mins prior)

The appointments should be booked with your regular GP and a nurse. Our nursing staff are available Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm, with appointment booked no later than 4pm. We recommend immunisation appointments in the morning, to ensure your GP and nurse are on site incase of any questions or reactions.
